Following a loss to France in a penalty shootout without being able to achieve significant success on Friday (5/7/2024) in Indonesia.

Portugal, which was expected by many due to Ronaldo’s presence, failed to progress further after losing in a dramatic match against France.

In the quarter-finals with a score of 3-5 through a penalty shootout at Volksparkstadion, Hamburg.

This defeat marks the end of Portugal’s journey in Euro 2024 and raises big questions about Ronaldo’s future at the international level, with speculation about his retirement resurfacing.

Portugal will not have Ronaldo in 2028. The number 7 jersey in Portugal will no longer be worn by CR7 because he announced that Euro 2024 will be his final tournament.

In an interview with O Jogo earlier this week, Ronaldo revealed that Euro 2024 would be his last tournament.

He said: “This is my last Euro, of course. But I don’t get emotional about it, I get emotional about everything that involves football.”

Ronaldo also added that it was the enthusiasm he had for this game, the enthusiasm of seeing supporters, family and people’s affection for him that made him emotional.

Thus, Ronaldo hopes to leave a good impression at Euro 2024 before ending his international career.

Immediately following Theo Hernandez’s successful penalty kick against Diogo Costa, Ronaldo’s face reflected an effort to remain stoic.
