Hospitality & Tourism Conference Event in Sabah Malaysia

Malaysia, MRN – The International Hospitality & Tourism Conference organized by Universiti Teknologi Mara – Malaysia was a success.

It took place on 8 December 2022 at the Sabah International Convention Center (SICC) and was attended by representatives from ASEAN countries, Hong Kong, and South Africa.

The conference, with the theme “Revitalizing ASEAN Tourism: Building Sustainable Resilience,” was opened by Iskandar Mirza Mohd Yusof, the Senior Director of Tourism Malaysia, who also served as a Keynote Speaker.

On the second day, the conference featured presentations of study results from all countries, covering Tourism Management, Hospitality Management & Food, as well as Gastronomy studies.

Nana Halim, from BBPPMPV Business and Tourism under the Directorate General of Vocational Education – Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, shared findings from her research on “The Impact of E-training on the Attitude and Skill Competencies of Vocational High School Teachers Amid the Covid-19 Pandemic in Indonesia”.

During her talk at the Hospitality Management Study meeting, attended by delegates from different nations, Nana Halim, serving as the Head of Administration, underscored the importance of organizational creativity and adjustment amidst the Covid-19 crisis.

Amid the interminable pandemic in 2021, the Business and Tourism BBPPMPV consistently implements its missions and functions by organizing educator competence improvements through online learning (E-Training).

It was attended by 614 vocational teachers in the Business and Tourism Sector (Culinary, Hospitality, UPW, Cosmetology, Fashion Design, Social Workers, Marketing Online Business, Accounting, OTKP).

The success of the E-training program was made possible by the Information System for Organizing Education and Training-SIMPEDIK and the Learning Management System (LMS) application.

Nana Halim emphasized that the one-month E-training program had a positive impact on the skills of the participants, although the significance of the improvement varied. Additionally, Nana Halim mentioned the importance of blended learning, internships, and industrial competency tests to further enhance the competence of the training graduates.

Finally, Nana Halim highlighted that the participants received graduation certificates and industrial competency test certificates at the conclusion of the training.

On the other hand, the image of the institution and the satisfaction level of participants/teachers as consumers to the organizers and facilitators were considered excellent and satisfying.

The conference concluded with a dinner procession attended by all conference participants and continued the next day through visits to various tourist destinations around Kinabalu – Sabah.
